No, unless someone sat by the shroff all the

time you could not tell what he received.

Do you know of any authority for the practice of receiving payments into Court after judgment though execution has not been issued?

No.

Is it not desirable to discontinue the practice? Yes.

Do any of your staff other than the shroff receive moneys?

Yes, the bailiffs receive large sums in receipt of executions.

With regard to the estate of deceased persons are their effects checked by the Registrar or Depy. Regr. on receipt?

No one checks except the Bailiff. When things come from ships the shroff takes the money, I take over the jewellery and I sign the ship's log which specifies everything. In cases of deaths in Hong Kong : Hill takes over.

Did you personally ever make checks of the cash in the hands of the shroff?

I have I think twice made such a check - this

was three or four years ago.

Did you personally ever make check to see that all moneys received in the Registry on any day were paid into the Treasury?

No.

Formerly we had a Deputy Registrar and Accountant. When he left I took over from him the Company work and the remaining Deputy Registrar took over the accounts. This was when the post was done away with.

Sec.13 of the S.C. Ord. calls for two Deputy Registrars which would allow of one doing the accounts. It was the practice formerly for one Deputy Registrar to do the accounts and Company work.
